A most convenient venue to sell the late Prince Bernhard’s Ferrari 212 Inter: that is Concours d’élégance ‘Het Loo’ in Apeldoorn. The unrestored car will be auctioned at the Dutch royal palace on August 31.
It is not the first time the American coalition in Afghanistan and Iraq finds a stash of expensive cars, tucked away by former tyrant Saddam Hussein. This time, again a part of the Saddam Hussein car-collection has come to the light, but other than the earlier finds, it now houses one very interesting vehicle.
Part of the Bugatti Type 57 launch range the ‘Galibier’ was a four-door, four-seater touring saloon. Named after a peak in the French Alps and notable for its pillarless doors, the model was otherwise a somewhat conservative design with formal lines and an upright stance. However, customers wishing for a sportier variation on the Galibier theme could always have their Type 57 chassis clothed by an outside coachbuilder.
The most famous of the Bugatti Royales, the very impressive T41 Coupé Napoleon - Ettore Bugatti’s personal car - is entered for this year’s concours d’élégance Saint-Cloud in Paris. That’s great news, but it even becomes better when you know the car will be driven to the event.
You do not often get the chance to buy a Ferrari shooting brake. This May, you can now buy two as Coys are to offer for auction the ex-Bob Gittleman, Chinetti & Garfinkle-designed Ferrari Daytona shooting brake from 1972/74 (#15275), and the 1968 Vignale bodied Ferrari 330 GT shooting brake (#7963) in Monaco, the last Ferrari by Vignale.

Return from the ashes
After 45 years in hibernation, this Talbot Lago Grand Sport with bodywork of Pennock from the Netherlands has returned to its original home country. But before we could drive it there, the former owners ashes had to be blown away, as he had made some extraordinary burial wishes.
Corsica was a small coachbuilding company in London which between the wars offered exotic body styles on many high-grade chassis, built individually to orders from wealthy clients. The British coachbuilder bodied several Bugattis of which eight were built on the lowered and shortened T57S-chassis. Johan Buchner is an expert on Bugatti with a strong opinion. This is what he has to say about the eight individual T57S Corsicas:
Pennock was a wellknown Dutch coachbuilder located in The Hague between 1900 and 1953. The Dutch company fabricated various coachworks for public transport vehicles, trucks and luxury motorcars. The coachbuild company from Johannes Jacobus Pennock Leonarduszoon fabricated many beautiful bodies on the chassis' of brands like Delahaye, Lagonda, Talbot-Lago, Austin and Armstrong Siddeley.
The Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona with chassis number 15275 was rebodied in 1974, receiving a very special Shooting Break design fabricated by Panther Westwinds and designed by Luigi Chinetti Jr. and Gene Garfinkle.
The 'Breadvan' is a special Ferrari made in 1962 based on a 1961 Ferrari 250 GT SWB, chassis number 2819GT. It was built to compete against the new 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO at Le Mans and other FIA GT races.
I am not a natural flatterer, I like to think that I "tell it like it is", politely I hope. So when I tell you that I am very impressed by the contents of your website, it is just not English politeness. I of course love the subject matter but you deal with it in an energetic and respectful manner. I am overwhelmed by the research that has gone into compiling the list of coachbuilders/bodybuilders for Europe and North America. I have never heard of the vast majority of them.
