Vignale Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith

While Pininfarina presents their one-off Special Coachbuilt Rolls-Royce Hyperion at Pebble Beach, another unique "Anglo-Italo" Rolls-Royce is being displayed. Only this one is a unique example from the past. A very remarkable Silver Wraith...

This weekend at Pebble Beach, the Blackhawk Collection has some interesting cars on display, which are all for sale! One of them is this 1954 Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith (Chassis #LCLW14) with custom body by Vignale.

This Italian coachbuilt 'Roller' was built on a long wheelbase chassis, custom ordered by a New Yorker called Joseph Maschuch. The chassis was sent to Alfredo Vignale Coachworks in Italy and was finished in spring 1955.

There were many unique special features ordered by Maschuch like; the engine block, head, dynamo, starter, air cleaner, carburetor, and inlet manifold were to be painted green. The rocker cover was to be highly polished. All visible pipes under the hood were to be chrome plated. Taking a look inside, we see lots of beautiful woodwork which houses a television.

It is also equipped with a full bar and next to the rear seat we even see a telephone. Under the back seat you can find a toilet that was mostly used to keep the champagne chilled. The front seats are electrically operated and the radio is a Becker Mexico.

With its backward reclining rear window and four eyed front, the Vignale body looks, ehr... lets say... typical. Very typical but special! If this Rolls-Royce is a bit overdesigned for your taste, then Blackhawk has plenty of more Special Coachbuilt Rolls-Royces to offer. There are several cars to choose with more conventional bodies by Gurney Nutting, Park Ward, Mulliner, Brewster, Franay and James Young. All very nice, but none as 'special' as the Vignale Silver Wraith of course.

I am not a natural flatterer, I like to think that I "tell it like it is", politely I hope. So when I tell you that I am very impressed by the contents of your website, it is just not English politeness. I of course love the subject matter but you deal with it in an energetic and respectful manner. I am overwhelmed by the research that has gone into compiling the list of coachbuilders/bodybuilders for Europe and North America. I have never heard of the vast majority of them. Congratulations on an excellent website.
