The Untold Story...
I have known my good friend Maarten de Bruijn, founder of Spyker Cars, for 25 years, but recently I was amazed and genuinely impressed again by his story.... both about his now historic significance to Spyker and about his vision and meticulous attention to detail in his new "deBruyn Ferox V8" project. The combination of his broad and nuanced knowledge about construction methods, materials, aerodynamics, vehicle dynamics, and last but not least the aesthetic side of car design, among other things, is second to none.
Only now it really dawned on me how big his core role at Spyker has always been. That he designed and engineered the first 3 models (a.o. C8 Spyder and Laviolette) independently and organized the production in the UK. With that he laid the foundation for the Spyker brand as a company (with business partners) to gain wings and grow into a mature sports car brand. With business partner Victor Muller, Spyker even participated in the 24 Hours of Le Mans and raced as an official Formula 1 team.
However, partly due to his endearing modesty, many of these aspects and facts have so far been considerably underexposed in the historiography about the birth and downfall of Spyker. His crucial role as a founding father, and how his vision and unbridled dedication and commitment laid the foundation for refining his designs into production versions, deserve to be given more of a spotlight than he was given at the time.
However, Maarten is not the man to look back, he wants to move forward. Like a musician who discovers a melody at night and can't help but work it out and perform it the next day. So for many years he has worked in silence toward his new magnum opus: the Ferox. Under his own brand name: deBruyn Cars. An unlikely story, but he succeeded again. In September 2023 he presented his 'deBruyn Ferox V8' at the 'Wheels at the Palace' event in the Netherlands. His achievement caught the eye of everyone, receiving unanimous acclaim. And with the audience holding their breath, even his former business partner showed sportiness complimenting Maarten with his exciting new automotive revelation.
Being well-funded and with 3 cars already sold, the deBruyn Cars company makes a careful but well-positioned entry into the present day special sports car market. Their offering of pure unfiltered driving pleasure and unique craftsmanship deserves a fair chance in this world of over-engineered, over-assisted and over-priced galactic hypermobiles... In the end it's all about art, smart engineering, drivability and fun. Look no further! https://www.debruyncars.com
