To celebrate Alfa Romeo's centenary three coachbuilders were invited to present a new concept. At the Geneva Autosalon Bertone showed the Pandion and Pininfarina came with the 2uettottanta. A third concept was announced but didn't show up in Geneva. Villa d'Este was the place where Zagato introduced the Alfa Romeo TZ3 Corsa Concept.

The Zagato TZ3 follows the path of the famous '62 TZ1 and '64 TZ2 which Zagato built on the basis of the Alfa Giulia to a design of Ercole Spada.

Zagato's press release reads:
The TZ3 Corsa is not a design exercise. It doesn't take inspiration only from the 90 year collaboration between the two brands, neither only from the Milanese link between Alfa Romeo and Zagato. The TZ3 Corsa is a race car, honouring the 100th anniversary of Alfa Romeo's racing Heritage. It celebrates the men and machines of the Alfa Romeo Zagato common tradition: Scuderia Ferrari of 20's and 30's, Alfa Corse of 40's and 50's, Autodelta of 60's and 70's up to the latest Scuderia Zagato of 80's and 90's.

Commissioned by M. Kapp, a German Alfa Romeo Zagato's Gentleman driver, the TZ3 Corsa is based on a mono shell carbon fibre tubular chassis, coupled with a tubular frame and a lightweight aluminium body.

The TZ3 is a retro styled modern take on the TZ1. Based on what we've heard and by looking at the overall proportions, we can assume it is a coachbuilt special of the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione, meaning the TZ3 Corsa gets its power from a 4.2-liter V8. The doors open Ferrari Enzo-style, hinged at the front and in the roof.

I am not a natural flatterer, I like to think that I "tell it like it is", politely I hope. So when I tell you that I am very impressed by the contents of your website, it is just not English politeness. I of course love the subject matter but you deal with it in an energetic and respectful manner. I am overwhelmed by the research that has gone into compiling the list of coachbuilders/bodybuilders for Europe and North America. I have never heard of the vast majority of them. Congratulations on an excellent website.
