This Vignale-bodied 212 Inter Europa Coupé was imported new to the US by Luigi Chinetti Motors, who sold it to its first owner Mr. Thomas Neelands of New York City. The car then found its way to California as it was sold in the 1960s to Sid Colberg of San Francisco and to Robert Taylor of Burlingame in 1977.

By 1980 #0287 EU was with Robert Lloyd of Texas, who began restoration before it went to John Ridings Lee of Dallas in 1982. Lee had the car repainted in maroon. The car was offered at auction the following year before being owned in 1983 by Russell Head of Hillsborough, California, who showed it in 1984 at the Ferrari Owners Club Concours at the Ranch Canada Golf Club in Carmel.

The car then passed through ownership in Salt Lake City, Utah before being sold in 1986 to Oldtimer-Garage Ltd. of Bern, Switzerland and going through broker Charles Gnädinger to Filippo Gecchelin of Vicenza, Italy the year after.

Gecchelin showed the car during the Ferrari Club Italia meeting at Imola in 1987 and again in 1989, the same year he drove it in the Mille Miglia Storica. It entered the Mille Miglia once more in 1990, was pictured in Marcel Massini?s book Ferrari by Vignale in 1992 and was finally shown in 1993 during the Tutte le Ferrari in Pista meeting at Mugello.

Gecchelin sold the car to Gstaad resident Ralph Bruggmann, who in turn showed it during Ferrari's 50th anniversary celebrations in Rome and Maranello. Oldtimer-Garage purchased the car in November 1998 before the engine was overhauled in spring 1999 by Markus Scharnhorst in Switzerland.

Mr. Schermerhorn of Holland subsequently purchased the car in 1999 and, as with all of his cars, has driven it sparingly ever since. Event appearances have included the MECC Show in Maastricht, Holland, the Uwe Meissner Modena Motorsport Track Days and Concours at the Nürburgring (2005) and, most recently, the XIV Sport et Collection event at the Circuit du Val de Vienne in France (June 2008), where it was on display with five other coachbuilt cars in his collection. Finished in Rosso Rubino with a beige leather interior, 0287 EU represents a splendid execution of Vignale coachwork and the bespoke, one-off designs of Ferrari?s earliest road going models.

I am not a natural flatterer, I like to think that I "tell it like it is", politely I hope. So when I tell you that I am very impressed by the contents of your website, it is just not English politeness. I of course love the subject matter but you deal with it in an energetic and respectful manner. I am overwhelmed by the research that has gone into compiling the list of coachbuilders/bodybuilders for Europe and North America. I have never heard of the vast majority of them. Congratulations on an excellent website.
