The 1938 Alfa Romeo 8C 2900 B 'Lungo' Berlinetta was exceptional in both design, power and handling. With coachwork by Carrozzeria Touring of Milan, it was described at the time as "the fastest car in the world". A total of 43 were built and it's the most exclusive and expensive Alfa Romeo ever.
The 8C 2900B was based on the 8C 2900A sports racing cars and were built as "Corto" (short wheelbase), "Lungo" (long wheelbase) and "Le Mans" version. Only 10 Lungo-versions were built between 1937 and 1939.
Three of Italy's finest coachbuilders provided coupe and convertible bodies for the 2900B, Carrozzeria Touring, Stabilimenti Farina and Pinin Farina. Touring produced only five coupe bodies on the 2900B Lungo.
I am not a natural flatterer, I like to think that I "tell it like it is", politely I hope. So when I tell you that I am very impressed by the contents of your website, it is just not English politeness. I of course love the subject matter but you deal with it in an energetic and respectful manner. I am overwhelmed by the research that has gone into compiling the list of coachbuilders/bodybuilders for Europe and North America. I have never heard of the vast majority of them.
Congratulations on an excellent website.
