In keeping with the Rolls-Royce tradition of a two-model policy, the 20/25 HP was engineered to be the smaller sibling to Rolls-Royce's larger Phantom II. Like all Rolls models, the 20/25 HP was a careful, strategic evolution of the previous 20 HP model.
Thanks to the increased engine output, such coachbuilders as Vanden Plas, Freestone & Webb, Park Ward, Brewster, Gurney Nutting, Coachcraft and Thrupp & Maberly could offer more lavish coachwork without the hazard of reducing satisfactory performance. Almost 4,000 20/25 HP chassis were manufactured and sold between 1929 and 1936.
All 20/25s were fitted with custom coachwork, and the cars in this gallery are no exception, fitted with lovely variations of the saloon body by Thrupp & Maberly.
I am not a natural flatterer, I like to think that I "tell it like it is", politely I hope. So when I tell you that I am very impressed by the contents of your website, it is just not English politeness. I of course love the subject matter but you deal with it in an energetic and respectful manner. I am overwhelmed by the research that has gone into compiling the list of coachbuilders/bodybuilders for Europe and North America. I have never heard of the vast majority of them.
Congratulations on an excellent website.
