This beautiful Dino one-off prototype is the 1967 Frankfurt Motorshow show car, but it is much more than just a static concept car. It is a fully functional sportscar built on the rolling chassis of a Dino 206 SP race car which was originally bodied by Piero Drogo.

Chassis #10523 was shipped to Pininfarina to receive a new aluminium body and became a fully streetlegal sportscar using as much race car engineering as possible. It used the engine from one of three Dinos 206 SP raced at Le Mans in 1966 and still retains an ACO stamp on the block.

This car was designed by the 23 year old Paolo Martin and it was his very first project at Pininfarina. He started with a 1:10th scale model that was completed in his house before the final shape was hammered out in aluminum. Two prominent wings were added late to the project which were requested by Pininfarina who wanted to ensure they stayed at the forefront of racing technology.

Paolo about the design: "This automobile represented the summit of my dreams. I was about 23 years old and being able to see my first 1:1 scale drawing come into life as a wooden mock-up was a very strong emotion. I remember it as my first love and it is my favourite one - of course."

This very special Dino attended several shows and concourses before being displayed in the Pininfarina museum. Its presence enriched some more prestigious concourses over the years to show Pininfarina's heritage alongside the latest concept cars.

Now, after 41 years, the car has found its very first private owner. James Glickenhaus, owner of the Pininfarina P4/5 one-off, bought this car from Pininfarina and displayed her at the '08 Bahrein Grand Prix and at the '08 Villa d'Este Concours. The yellow Dino is fully streetlegal according to '60's regulations and will receive New York license plates. This means the car will not be 'just' a concept car anymore, but it is now being considered a true Special Coachbuilt Ferrari Dino.

I am not a natural flatterer, I like to think that I "tell it like it is", politely I hope. So when I tell you that I am very impressed by the contents of your website, it is just not English politeness. I of course love the subject matter but you deal with it in an energetic and respectful manner. I am overwhelmed by the research that has gone into compiling the list of coachbuilders/bodybuilders for Europe and North America. I have never heard of the vast majority of them. Congratulations on an excellent website.
