This superb Alfa Romeo Coupe (chassis #AR1900.01089) is one of approximately six surviving examples of a series of nine unique 1900s produced by Ghia throughout 1954. Legendary Italian designer Giovanni Savonuzzi was the man responsible for each design, no two of which are exactly the same. Each example can be immediately distinguished from another by a variety of subtle detail changes. For example, this car has a striking side spear that runs the length of the entire body, terminating in a clever arrow-shaped lamp that serves as the turn signal. Further distinguishing this particular car is that, of the nine produced, this is the only known example that was not constructed on the short 1900C SS platform.
Of the group, this car possesses what are arguably the cleanest, most refined lines and details. There are no superfluous vents, heavy moldings or awkward features, and there are clear, cohesive design themes inside and out.
During his years with Ghia, Savonuzzi was behind many of the firm's most influential projects from the Fiat, Aston Martin and Jaguar Supersonics to the Adventurer, a splendid show car built for Chrysler. As such, this car holds an important place in history, as it is a singular design from one of Italy's most revered and influential carrozzerie.

I am not a natural flatterer, I like to think that I "tell it like it is", politely I hope. So when I tell you that I am very impressed by the contents of your website, it is just not English politeness. I of course love the subject matter but you deal with it in an energetic and respectful manner. I am overwhelmed by the research that has gone into compiling the list of coachbuilders/bodybuilders for Europe and North America. I have never heard of the vast majority of them.
Congratulations on an excellent website.
