Drogo Ferrari 330 P4 #0900

The 330 P4 was designed by Ferrari / Mauro Forghieri using the Stuttgart Polytechnic University Wind Tunnel.

David Piper was one of Ferrari's loyal privateer racers and during the sixties raced a variety of the Italian GTs and sports cars. Over this period, he amassed a considerable amount of spare and left-over parts including of the already iconic 330 P4. He convinced Ferrari to provide him with the actual drawings of the 330 P4 to construct a new chassis for his pile of parts and the Italian manufacturer even allocated a chassis number for the project; 0900. Built up as a 330 P4 Barchetta, the car has since been actively campaigned in historic by Piper for many decades. Using the drawings, Piper is believed to have built several more P4 clones.

Piper's P4 replica DP2 which is referred to as "0900" was built in the seventies after Drogo died. It uses the front and rear clams from P4 #0860 that may have been Drogo built in 1967.

Piper's P4 replica DP2 "#0900" cannot be called a 1967 car as the chassis was built in the 1970s and completed around 1979 using the spare engine, gearbox and suspension from #0858 when a Can Am. Also it only uses the discarded P4 front and rear clams from P4 #0860 after that too was made into a Can Am car. The centre section of the body is believed to be done by Allegretti.

I am not a natural flatterer, I like to think that I "tell it like it is", politely I hope. So when I tell you that I am very impressed by the contents of your website, it is just not English politeness. I of course love the subject matter but you deal with it in an energetic and respectful manner. I am overwhelmed by the research that has gone into compiling the list of coachbuilders/bodybuilders for Europe and North America. I have never heard of the vast majority of them. Congratulations on an excellent website.
