It certainly teaches humility by showing how much one doesn't know. :( On the other hand, most participants have forgotten more than many other 'car enthusiasts' will ever know... ;) (Even if they are employed by some of our favourite magazines.. :puh:

That's interesting - Castagna certainly went in for that fancy work on radiator stone-guards. Any of our Italian friends know whether these were the design of one particular person?

Clive.

This Mercedes-Benz Nürburg presented on the third Concours d'Elegance,Budapest. Wich was directed on Margitsziget, the centre of Budapest on 29. May 1930. (not 1932)
It was a elegant Cabriolet Sedan (and not faux) by Lajos Zupka & Son (and not Sons, in Hungarian Zupka Lajos és Fia). The man next to the open door is Dezső Lányi sculptor.

One of my friend wrote few years ago about the Hungarian Concours d'Elegance (and many Hungarian theme from thte 1930's) in a Hungarian oldtimer magazine. He illustrated their aticle with great pictures. But currently my camera and my scanner is wrong. Pictures from period magazine, Hungarian National Museum, Hungarian Transportation Musem and privat collection.

Zupka and other coachbuilders made coachworks for Mercedes, Lancia, Minerva, Bugatti and so on.

Some pictures from pnegyesi's site, apart from the earlier posted car, I think it's the 770 and a 540k.

Mercedes-Benz 680 S by Lajos Zupka. Presented at Budapest Concours d'Elegance at 28 April 1935. The car won the public award and the "most beautiful open Hungarian car" price too. Probably a second body... The car's colour is silver.
(Thank you, Serg !)
